Switching ERP Systems: What Actually Happens During a Migration

If you've been on the same system for years, switching feels risky. Here's what the process actually looks like, and why most teams are up and running faster than they expect.

Switching ERP Systems: What Actually Happens During a Migration

If you have been using the same software for five, eight, maybe ten years, switching feels terrifying. You have years of order history, thousands of customer records, and a team that knows the old system inside and out.

But staying on aging software has a cost too. One that compounds quietly every year.

## What We Migrate

When a customer switches to Atelier, we move:

- Every customer account, contact, credit term, and note
- Order history going back as far as you want (most teams bring over three to five years)
- Open orders, active memos, outstanding invoices
- Current inventory by SKU, location, and cost
- Your full product catalog including descriptions, pricing, and vendor info

We flag anything we cannot verify before we touch it. No surprises.

## How It Works

**Week 1: Extraction and mapping**

We request a full export from your current system. Your account manager reviews the data structure and maps every field to Atelier. This is where we catch problems early.

**Week 2: Import and validation**

We load everything into a staging environment and run reconciliation checks. Totals, record counts, spot checks. You get access to review and sign off before anything goes live.

**Week 3: Training and parallel run**

Your team trains on Atelier while the staging data is being finalized. Most customers run both systems side by side for one to two weeks before cutting over.

**Week 4: Go-live**

We switch over on a quiet day, usually a Monday morning. Your old system stays read-only for 30 days in case you need to reference anything.

## What Customers Say

Most people expect the migration to be the hard part. It usually is not. The harder part is getting the team to stop defaulting to old habits once the new system is running.

## Pricing

Data migration is a $2,500 one-time add-on. We scope it first and only charge once you approve. If your situation is unusually complex, we will tell you upfront before any work begins.
