The fine jewelry wholesale business has requirements that generic software does not handle well. If you have tried off-the-shelf inventory tools and found yourself building workarounds, you are not alone.

## 1. Memo and Consignment Tracking
This is the first filter. If a system cannot natively track pieces sent on memo, with due dates, terms, and accountability, you will be managing it in spreadsheets from day one.
Ask directly: Can I send a piece on memo, set a due date, see it in my inventory, convert it to an invoice when it sells, and receive it back if returned, all inside the system?
## 2. Serial-Level vs. SKU-Level Inventory
Generic inventory software tracks quantities by SKU. That works for fashion jewelry. It does not work when every piece has a unique weight, quality, and cost.
You need serial-level or unique-item tracking where each stone or piece has its own record.
## 3. B2B Customer Experience
How do your retail accounts interact with you? If the answer is phone and email, that is a cost center waiting to be automated.
Look for systems that offer a Customer Portal, a branded B2B ordering experience where accounts can place orders, view invoices, and track shipments without calling you.
## 4. Accounting Integration
Your ERP needs to talk to your accounting software. Confirm which platforms are natively supported and whether the sync is truly bi-directional or one-way export only.
## 5. Industry-Specific Support
Working with a system built for jewelry means the support team understands your terminology: memo, consignment, parcel, carat weight, cut grade. You will not spend time explaining your business to get help.
